Mackenzie Latimer and Adrian Sanchez were crowned Basketball Homecoming Queen and King during a schoolwide assembly Jan. 31 at Hobbs High School. Voted the honor by fellow team members, both are seniors.

Adrian Sanchez put up six three-pointers in the Jan. 22 match against Roswell. The Eagles won the contest 89-831.

spelling beeHighland 8th-grader Zackery Howell, left, emerged as the top speller in Lea County following the Jan. 17 spelling bee at Tydings Auditorium. But Stone Elementary's Brevin McCool and Lovington sixth-grader Mackenzie Cuellar also qualified for the state spelling bee in Albuquerque.
