Homecoming Candidates Announced
Homecoming Set for Sept 2

Fifteen girls are in the running for Hobbs High School Homecoming queen and eight boys for Homecoming King. Winning royalty will be crowned during half-time ceremonies at next Friday’s Homecoming football game against Artesia.

 Here’s a look at the nominees:

Cynthia Marie Jordan
is nominated by the Spanish Club.  She is the daughter of Annie Lujan and Arturo Jordan.  Cynthia is also a member of the National Honor Society, band and FFA.  She will be escorted by her brother, A.J. Jordan.

Jessica Friend, team manager, is the volleyball  nominee.  She is the daughter of Ty and Allison Friend.  She will be escorted by Jesse Aldaco, a student body nominee.  He is the son of Rose Sanchez and Jesse Aldaco and is a member of the football team.

Madelene Sanchez is nominated by the student council.  The daughter of Martha and Wally Sanchez, Madelene is a member of the National Honor Society. ruizHer escort is Jordan Ruiz, a student body nominee and the son of Jose and Lorie Ruiz. Jordan is also a member of the football squad.

Briseyda Garcia
is the Colorguard nominee.  The daughter of Estevan and Monica Garcia, she is a member of Student Council, band, the softball team and is the senior class secretary.  Briseyda is escorted by Luis Antillon, son of Patricia and Francisco Antillon.


Gabby Charo is nominated by the Theatre Club.  She is the daughter of Joe and Billie Charo.  Gabby is a member of the swim team, student council and National Honor Society.  Her escort, Jonathan Alvarado, is the son of Alice and Ricky Alvarado.

Amy Vejil is the HHS National Honor Society nominee.  The daughter of Bo and Dixie Vejil, she is also a member of the softball team.  Amy is escorted by Brennen May, son of Brian and Christy May.

Noemi Carrillo is the Lady Eagles soccer team’s nominee.  She is the daughter of Esperanza Gonzalez and Jose Carrillo.  Noemi is being escorted by Xavier Garcia, son of Brandi Rojas and Daniel Garcia.

Morgan Whitehead
is nominated by the yearbook staff. The daughter of Wade and LeAnn Whitehead, she dances for Maciolek School of Dance, is a member of National Honor Society and student council and is editor of the 2016-2017 yearbook.  Morgan will be escorted by Brandon Sanchez, the son of Ladonna and Kevin Sanchez.

Essence Pando,
a student council member, is a student body nominee.  She is the daughter of Susie and Jaime Pando and will be escorted by David Ortega, son of Veronica and Oswaldo Ortega.


Julia Welborn
is the FFA nominee.  She is the daughter of Pamela and Jason Welborn.  Julia is on the FFA national Parliamentary Procedure team, National Ag Issues team and National 4-H Meats team.  She is escorted by Rudy Avitia, son of Melissa Dominguez.

Hillary Willard
is nominated by the cheerleaders.  The daughter of Stacy and Tracie Willard,  she is co-captain of the cheer team, is a member of the National Honor Society, Lea County Center for the Arts and Maciolek School of Dance.  She attends New Mexico Junior College through the Early College High School Program. Hillary is escorted by Zach Reber, son of David and Regina Reber.


Tristan Torres
is a student body nominee.  The daughter of Veronica and Bobby Torres, Tristan is a member of student council and attends the ACT Academy at NMJC.  She is escorted by Matthew Ross, the son of Phillip and Amy Ross.

Katlyn Johnson
is nominated by the HHS choir.  She is the daughter of Jeremiah and Tonja Johnson.  Katlyn is also involved in student council and A capella choir.  She is escorted by Briton Dunn, son of Patrick and Maria Dunn.


Zoie Rodriguez
is the football team’s nominee.  She is the daughter of Christy and Robert Rodriguez and is a member of the HHS softball team.  Zoie is escorted by Ezekiel Garcia, the son of Delfina and Martin Garcia.


Adamarys Diaz
is nominated by the band.  She is the daughter of Freddy and Maria Diaz.  In addition to band, Adamarys is a member of the varsity tennis team and attends the New Mexico Junior College as an Early College student.  She is escorted by Marco Cortez, the son of Dian and Marco Cortez.


Zack Ornelas
is the Hobbs High Soccer nominee.  He is the son of Norma Ornelas.  Zack is escorted by Destiny Criswell, the daughter of Lilly Lucio.


Blake Moore,
also a football player, is nominated by the National Honor Society.  He is the son of CaraBeth and Michael Moore.   His escort is Hanna Strickland, daughter of Kori and TJ Strickland.


Carlos Galindo
is the Skills USA nominee.  He is the son of Flor and Israel Galindo.  Carlos is escorted by Jackie Cadena, daughter of Gabriella and Fernando Cadena.


Jacob Caballero
is nominated by the band.  The son of Valerie Hernandez and Daniel Caballero,  Jacob is also involved with the choir and Teen Court.  He is being escorted by Savhannah Aldrete, the daughter of Hilda Mojica and Fidel Aldrete.


Taaron Landrum
is a student council nominee. The son of Teresa and Chuck Landrum,  Taaron, also is a member of the track and field team. He is escorted by Elexus Ortega, the daughter of Robert and Jamie Mendoza. 


Nathan Dawdy
is nominated by the Hobbs Eagles football team. He is the son of Mechalda and Greg Criswell.  In addition to football, he is a member of the wrestling team. Nathan will be escorted by Tyra Contreras, the daughter of Tara Rhodes and Sergio Contreras.
