Meet Marietta Appling, Houston Middle School Social Studies teacher
About me: I grew up all over the United States as a military child and graduated from high school in Carlsbad. I later graduated from USW college.
The reason I want to teach is to: Make an impact on the life of a child.
My favorite memory from my own school days: I had a history teacher that taught us in a different way every day. He made sure that every kid got something out of it in some way. He treated us like we were real people.
In my spare time: I raise my kids. I have four at home. I also enjoy reading, ALOT. I also paint, draw and continue working on my degree.
My favorite book is: Gorillas in the Mist. I first read this book in high school and was introduced to the works of Dian Fossey. I admired her to no end. I was recently given an edition that was signed by the illustrator and it is one of my prized possessions. To this day, I am still involved in gorilla conservation projects.
