Orientation and Meet the Teacher Activities Planned
Posted on 1800/01/01
first dayMany Hobbs schools have scheduled orientation activities and “Meet the Teacher” events prior to Wednesday’s first day of class while other schools will hold Open Houses later in the month. (Parents please note:  An early release schedule will be followed on Wednesday, the first day.  Elementary students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. and secondary at 2:20 p.m. – the same Wednesday schedule for the remainder of the school year).

Incoming Hobbs High School sophomores, in the meantime, are in for some orientation fun on Wednesday morning.

The week kicks off with a Freshman High School orientation at 6 p.m. Monday night. In addition, Heizer Middle School and Murray Elementary School will also host their Open Houses at 6 p.m. Monday and HHS D Level students are invited to a 7 p.m. orientation in the 100 wing. Earlier in the day, Houston students can pick up their schedules and IDs from 12-4 p.m. in the school gym.

A series of “Meet the Teacher” events are likewise scheduled on Tuesday. What follows are the times and places when students can meet their new teacher on Tuesday.
    Broadmoor – 5:30-7 p.m.
    Coronado – 1-3 p.m.
    Jefferson – 5:30-6:30 p.m.
    BTW Kindergarten – 3-5 p.m.
    Mills – 5-6 p.m.
    Sanger – 6-7 p.m.
    Will Rogers – 1-3 p.m.

Meanwhile, Southern Heights and Taylor Elementary Schools have scheduled Open Houses from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 25. Edison’s Open House is set for 6-7 p.m. Aug. 23 while Stone will host an Open House beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 22.  And over at College Lane, parents are welcome to walk their students to class and visit with teachers until 8:30 a.m. on the first day. Doors open that morning at 7:20 a.m.

Back at Hobbs High School, students will have a modified schedule on Wednesday.  Juniors and seniors will report to their first class at 11:20 a.m. (individual schedules are available on Skyward) while sophomores should meet at Tasker Arena beginning at 8 a.m. that day. Administrative staff  have scheduled a series of tours and fun activities to familiarize the new students with the school and its traditions. HHS alum Ronald Ross will be a featured speaker. “We’ll hand out packets and give them the scoop for the day and the rest of the year,” said HHS assistant principal Brenda Wilson. “It’s a really cool event that we put together to help sophomore students get acclimated to Hobbs High School.”

Parents with questions about the first day of school or other matters should contact the school their child is scheduled to attend.
